At the September board meeting, John-Michael Cortez was voted in as an
interim board member to fill a vacancy. Formal approval will be made by
vote at the annual meeting in May 2001.
John-Michael is a 1999 Graduate of the University of Texas with a Bachelor
of Business Administration degree. His majors were in international business
and finance. He is currently working as an account executive with Strategic
Partnerships, Inc. here in Austin. John-Michael is also very active in the
community. He serves on the education committee and the board of directors
of the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the
Libraries for the Future Task Force and has volunteered to continue with any
follow-up program concerning the library. He is also active at Metz
Elementary School serving on the campus advisory board and as a TAAS Mentor.
The board is also reviewing a proposed Memorandum of Understanding between
the Friends, the Library Foundation, and the History Center Association.
The memorandum will set forth areas of cooperation and coordinate activities
between the three organizations. Denise Brady is currently reviewing the
final draft. We hope to have this completed before the end of the year.
