"I cannot live without books."

President's Message
In the last newsletter, David Capshaw and Ed Burns submitted an article
concerning our financial situation and goals, proposing that our operating
expenses be met with money received from memberships and underwriting
donations. This would enable us to use all the money received from our book
sale to fund projects for the library. We are well on the way to meeting
this objective. We have received a cash donation from Whole Foods Market,
which we hope to turn into an ongoing event. However, we really need to step
up our efforts in our membership recruiting. We presently have over 600
members. It would be nice to finish the year with over 1000 members. This
would ensure that our financial base would be secure.
Under the leadership of board members Kim Lindros and Phyllis Todaro, we
are completely overhauling our membership information brochure. Laura
Wright, a freelance writer and editor, and Judy Jensen, a graphics artist
with PSI, have been assisting with the revision. The brochure is in the
final review stage and should be available shortly. Kim is also working on a
briefing presentation that we will use to recruit businesses and
philanthropic organizations to our cause. Board member Denise Brady has
agreed to make the presentations. Laura Wright is also working on a
membership card and the publicity for the annual sale. Laura and Judy are
providing their services pro bono. They deserve a big thank you.
The new brochure will be placed in all library facilities for pick up by
patrons. This is a passive effort and has a low membership yield. We need
each current member to actively recruit new members. This is why we print
the application form on the back of the newsletter. Pass the newsletter on
to a friend along with a little sales pitch. It could do wonders.
