That's it! The web site is up and running. Many thanks go to Carlos Lowry
for his work in designing the site and coordinating with the organization
that provides the site, at no cost to us. So far we have links with the City of Austin and the library web sites. We would like
to link to the Library Foundation and
the Austin History Center Association. This
possibility is still being investigated.
What's on the site? We have information on the Friends, our by-laws, the
newsletter, a membership application, information about the book sale and a
preliminary listing of the books to be auctioned at the book sale. If you
have any suggestions on what we should add to the site, or comments about
it, please let me know.
On another subject, we have been very fortunate to receive a large number of
books donated by individuals and companies. These are not library discards,
and in many instances we can make a good deal more money on their sale. Some
are also included in the action listing. Take a look at the donations column
in this issue for more details. If you have items you wish to donate, call
me and we can arrange to pick them up.
Board member David Capshaw and Treasurer Ed Burns have an article in this
letter explaining how our money is used by the library to further our
outreach to the community. The numbers are an eye opener!
