Volunteer

MAIN needs your help!

We are looking for dedicated volunteers to help us manage our rapid growth. Most community non-profits can not afford to pay for a web presence. Many do not have the experience or training to develop and maintain a web presence. MAIN is the only non-profit, all volunteer organization, in the Austin area that provides these much needed services to our community not-for-profit organizations. And YOU can be a part of it.

If you would like to be a part of this exciting project, fill out the form below. The form includes descriptions of volunteer opportunities at MAIN. Just click in the box next to each that interests you. Please complete the entire form and click on the send button at the end.

By filling out this form you put the wheels in motion, but you are not making any commitments. Ami Hooper, our Volunteer Coordinator, will be in contact with you to answer any questions. Then you can decide if MAIN is a project you want to get involved with.

The Form

Web Page Developers
Many of the organizations MAIN supports have no idea how a web presence is designed, built and maintained. MAIN is building a pool of web developers we can draw from. We match projects with members of our web development pool. Typically you will take an organization form design to completion of their phase I web presence. You will also help with any maintenance. We like the concept of creating a partnership between our volunteer developers and one or more organizations that need their expertise. Read more about our partnership concept - Web Buddies.

Trainers
MAIN needs experienced web developers to train staff at the non-profit organizations we support. While MAIN will develop a web presence for an organization, the ultimate goal is to teach them how to manage their own content. If you have the experience and like to teach, this might be for you. The organizations we support are eager to learn, and appreciative of anyone willing to take time out of their busy schedule to help them.

Client Relations
No technical skills need here - just people skills. A critical component of any service organization is customer relations. MAIN feels it is important that we stay in regular communication with our clients. We want to know that their needs are being met. Is there anything we can do for them? Have they heard about the latest new service MAIN offers. Are there any questions they need answered. You get the picture. Its all about communications, and if you have good communications (people) skills this may be the perfect place for you at MAIN.

Public Relations
We desperately need one or more good public relations volunteers. We don't need to explain this job. If you are an experienced PR person you know what needs to be done. And we REALLY need your help!

Writers
Not a PR person, but you're good at writing? Well, we can use your talent. There is so much going on at MAIN that we'd like to talk about, but we just don't have the time or experience to do it, and do it well. If writing is your thing, we have several projects that need your skills.

Archivist
MAIN is a unique model in the nation, and we want to document it. If you are experienced in archival documentation, we'd love to have you on board.

Content Managers
MAIN wants to become more interactive with the community. We are interested in finding individuals with special interests and good community ties that are linked to categories of information published at MAIN. As an example let's look at the senior (mature citizen) community. Are you a strong supporter of seniors? Would you like to host a seniors community electronic forum and online calendar. Do you know all the movers and shakers in the senior community? Can you tell everyone in the Austin senior community about MAIN? Encourage Austin senior organizations to publish at MAIN? Find good links to existing content we are missing? You get the idea, and we have lots of other categories like; gardening, arts, sports, libraries, the disabled, and environmental. Here's the catch. This requires volunteers that are willing to make a serious and time consuming commitment. You will want to think long and hard before jumping in. Its a big responsibility with lots of rewards and recognition.

Special Projects
Are you interested in helping out, but don't fit in with any of the above? No problem. MAIN has a variety of special projects that need special people to help out. Chip in at our web raising events, man/woman a booth and tell folks all about MAIN, help out with a special mailing, answer the phone or check messages, help out with public meetings, and who knows what else we might need. There's always something to do, and we sure could use your help.
