A neighborhood meeting assembled upon written notice having
been delivered to each neighborhood household and adjoining neighborhood
business fronting on access way of Highway 290 West. The notice included a Neighborhood Watch discussion with
members of the Austin Police Department, and other agenda items.
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Cora Quinn
at 7:30 PM, at which 35 people were present. (Estimate. Not all attendees signed in).
Secretary Carl Pearson did not attend the meeting due to
illness. Vice Chair Jean Wilkins
and Treasurer Ingrid Morton volunteered to jointly take minutes for this
meeting.
Cora discusses the two resolutions mentioned at the last
meeting, one regarding support for the protection of the Bradfield Tract and
remaining undeveloped Terrace land, the other regarding support for protecting
the Brodie Tract from future development.
The resolutions had been forwarded to SOS legal counsel Bill Bunch, and
were accepted without opposition.
A motion was made by Michael Adams to adopt the Minutes of
neighborhood meeting for March 14 2000, and April 20, 2000.
The motion is seconded by Danielle Becker, and passes without opposition.
Ingrid Morton gave a treasurer’s report.
The Neighborhood Association opened an account with Guaranty Federal
Band, with an initial deposit of $230.00, giving eleven households active voting
membership.
Jean Wilkins introduced members from the APD who were
invited to help neighbors organize a neighborhood watch program. The
Neighborhood is located in the David sector, one of twelve city districts.
Its Neighborhood Watch public education coordinator is Sonia Carrion.
This agency is a resource for a variety of issues, stray
dogs, abandoned vehicles, home security and personal safety, property
identification.
Officers Lou Gonzales, Dustin Lee, Jim Scott had
discussions on safety measures which could be implemented in the neighborhood.

The officers mention they will provide free inspections of
all residences, and suggested meeting again in the neighborhood, either en masse
in an organized block party, or street by street.
It is urged that the successful neighborhood watch program requires all
neighbor’s participation. The officers conclude their discussion.
Danielle thanked the block captains for their efforts and
hard work. Volunteers are still
needed for Stearns, Dudley and Dudmar.
Cora discusses the various meetings, classes and workshops
she has recently attended, available to all neighbors. Membership in the
city-wide Austin Neighborhood Council is recommended, which has annual dues of
twenty-four dollars ($24).
Neighbor Kate Cozzens mentions the existence of a web page dedicated to the Neighborhood Association. It is located at http://www.main.org/bvna email at bvna@texas.net.
Cora reports that septic system regulation which has been
an issue was speculated for further consideration after recent elections,
according to David Lopez with the Health Department.
Cora mentions the good news of election of new City Council
member Raul Alvarez, an environmentalist; urged support through membership in
the Save Our Springs Alliance; and availability of telephone numbers for
neighborhood concerns, which can be handled anonymously.
Coral says she has the numbers if anyone needs them at this point.
Cora discusses the Brodie Tract, and its impending sale for
the purpose of new construction at the end of West Gate.
A letter from City Council member Darryl Slusher is
discussed, where he requested neighbor input in desired use of the land.
