Minutes of Meeting
BARTON VIEW NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
Sunday, January 20, 2002, 2:00 PM, home of Ingrid Morton, 3204 Cupid Drive,
Austin, TX, 78735
A neighborhood meeting was called to order upon written notice being delivered to each neighbor via the association newsletter. The notice included agenda items.
Secretary Carl Pearson opened the meeting at 2:15pm, at which 15 members were present. The meeting was held at Ingrid Morton’s home.
Minutes from the previous meeting were entered into the record.
Ingrid gave a treasurer’s report, informing the attendees that there were six new members, and that the association’s checking account balance stood at $590. She then informed the attendees that a fax / copier was available for $200. It would help for the association to have its own copier, to defray the cost of producing the newsletter and other copy-related needs. After a vote, it was decided not to purchase the copier.
Results of the election of Officers were reported. The new officers were:
Donna Tiemann – Chair | |
Marsha Topham – Vice Chair
Ingrid Morton – Treasurer
Joe Head – Communications Coordinator
Carl Pearson – Secretary |
Block Captains were appointed by Donna:
Barton View: Kim Stover
John Campbell’s: Rory Borgsteadt
Bruce: Joe Head | |
Whites: Erin Larson | |
Nancy Gale: Jean Wilkins
Cupid: Zande Seeley | |
Stearn’s: Horacio Gasquet
Dudley / Dudmar: No Block Captain Set |
Several items were then put up for discussion:
Spending Limits: General consensus was for $25 or a certain percentage of the available funds, however, no vote was taken on spending limits.
Newsletter. To be produced by Communications Director Joe Head, the first issue to be due in March. It will be printed quarterly, and available to all neighbors. Discussion was had on whether the newsletter should go just to members, or all neighbors. Consensus was that while there was a cost involved with producing the newsletter, the information should still be available to all.
Logo Contest. The association is seeking a new logo. Submissions will be judged at the next meeting, with the winner receiving a $20 gift certificate to Sun Harvest.
Recycling Awareness. Joe Head will include information in the newsletter regarding recycling.
Neighborhood Resource Directory. Donna suggested forming a neighborhood directory, including data on neighbors such as hobbies, skills and other interests. The main objection was one of privacy. No vote was taken on this item.
Sidewalk on 290 Feeder. Marsha Topham and other residents would like to see sidewalks between West Gate and Brodie. There is currently too much traffic on the feeder to make walking or bicycling safe.
Brodie Tract Cleanup. A neighborhood cleanup of the tract was suggested, but no date set.
Brodie Tract Update: Donna reported that at this time, there are no plans for building on the tract, though the chance always exists that the City may sell or trade part of the tract in exchange for other environmentally sensitive tracts.
Petition to Extend Council Member’s Terms. A presentation was made by visitor Brandi Clark on behalf of Beverly Griffith, Jackie Goodman and Darryl Slusher, asking for petition signers regarding the upcoming city council elections. Reristered voters were encouraged to sign one, two or all three petitions. Garnishing enough signatures would allow the council members to bypass their current term limits and run for re-election. Copies of the petitions were left at the meeting. |
At 4:30pm, the meeting adjourns
