Location / Population

Rockdale is a modern city of 5,235 serving a trade area of some 22,000 centrally located at the intersection of US 77 and US 79, almost equidistant from Austin, Waco, Temple and Bryan-College Station. Major Texas Cities (Dallas, Houston and San Antonio) are within an average of 140 miles radius. Rockdale offers an excellent school system and extensive church and recreational facilities; an industrious, motivated work force, a low crime rate, dedicated emergency facilities and, most importantly, friendly, well-educated, active and enthusiastic citizens.

The University of Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Southwestern and Southwest Texas State Universities, Blinn and Temple Colleges, Texas State Technical College, Austin Community College and ITT Technical School are all within a 90-minute drive of Rockdale.

Industry

Alcoa is Rockdale's major industry with 1300 employees and is a generous contributor to total community quality.

Recreation

Rockdale maintains a wide assortment of recreational facilities including a public swimming pool and tennis courts, 10 acres of public parks, a country club with golf, tennis and swimming facilities, a skating rink, organized little league baseball, girls softball, youth soccer, youth football and youth basketball, plus men's and women's tennis and golf leagues. There are nine major college sports locations, major league professional football, baseball, basketball, and soccer, pari-mutuel racing, salt and fresh water fishing and prime hunting, all within three hours by car.

The Rockdale Reporter has been published weekly since 1873 and is recognized as a leading weekly newspaper in Texas. Radio station KRXT (98.5 FM) in Rockdale provides network and local programming. Two cable systems carry all major TV networks and an extensive variety of other programming.

Health Care

Rockdale boasts excellent medical facilities: A 47- bed hospital, two medical clinics and three nursing centers (including an Alzheimer's facility), Scott & White and King's Daughters hospitals in Temple and Seton, St. David's and Brackenridge hospitals in Austin are only an hour away. Rockdale has a heliport and a 24-hour Emergency Medical Service.
