Rockdale is a modern city of 5,235 serving a trade area of some 22,000 centrally located at the intersection of US 77 and US 79, almost equidistant from Austin, Waco, Temple and Bryan-College Station. Recreation
Rockdale maintains a wide assortment of recreational facilities including a public swimming pool and tennis courts, 10 acres of public parks, a country club with golf, tennis and swimming facilities, a skating rink, organized little league baseball, girls softball, youth soccer, youth football and youth basketball, plus men's and women's tennis and golf leagues. There are nine major college sports locations, major league professional football, baseball, basketball, and soccer, pari-mutuel racing, salt and fresh water fishing and prime hunting, all within three hours by car.

The Rockdale Reporter has been published weekly since 1873 and is recognized as a leading weekly newspaper in Texas. Radio station KRXT (98.5 FM) in Rockdale provides network and local programming. Two cable systems carry all major TV networks and an extensive variety of other programming.
