Central Class of 1943
62nd Class Reunion
We started off with a fun, fun, fun Friday Night Cocktail Party. Lots of eating and talking
and then some more eating and talking. We had 48 attending and those that came said it
was a good visiting time. Some had not seen each other since the 50th reunion.
Adele Borne Spencer and Richard Howser did a fantastic job getting it all set up and ready.
Also Ruth Austin Justus and Bonnie Curtis Fowler got us all registered and we all had name tags.
But the thing I noticed was some had those buttons that said "I can't remember your name either."
It was just a lot of fun and no one wanted to quit even at 11 pm.
Saturday morning after breakfast we met in the lobby (the 40 that registered for it) and were
picked up in a Yellow School Bus to go to the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks, Oklahoma. After
we waited at least 14 minutes for the "Walk or Run for Breast Cancer" people to clear the
intersection we proceeded on to Jenks. It was really a great sight seeing all of those strange
fish, especially scary with SHARKS swimming over our heads. We then went to a classroom
there and had a box lunch. We were wishing everyone had signed up to come. It was a great trip!Back to the Hilton for more visiting in the Hospitality Room and then off to get dressed for dinner.
At 5 pm we met for Happy Hour (cash bar) in the Ballroom and also looked at the Memorabilia
our Historian, Beryl Ford brought for us. We ended up with 88 registered for the reunion. Several
had to cancel the week before but some late registers picked up the dinners ordered so we did
very well. Our good friend Joe Ashlock in Alaska again sent Champagne for each of the tables
even though he had to cancel his plans to come at the last minute. We had a wonderful toast to
the class and also to all of you by Garvin Berry at the dinner. Bob Henley served as MC for the
evening and Peggy Comfort Wetter wrote a new verse to "Thanks for the Memories." She led us
in singing all of them. Also we did a good job of singing with Roger Swift leading us in our School
Song "OH GREAT SPIRIT." Jack Zarrow presented Beryl Ford a Certificate from the Mayor of
Tulsa for his contribution as the "Historian of Tulsa for the past 60 years." We are so proud of him
and he's one of us too. Gwen Ward Gilbert read the Poem that was in our Banquet program at our
Commencement Banquet at the Mayo Hotel, "WE ARE THE CLASS OF 43." It was great.Next we had a time for "I Remember When" and several class members told us what they
remembered of those days. And to think it has been 62 years and we still remember. But they
were great memories. Like "I'll meet you at the windows or the statue," CSC duty (lucky ones), or
Mr. Temple walking around the building. And more...Ruth Harvey Kirkpatrick, Chairman of the 62nd gave a reading titled "I'M 80 TODAY." It was
a good ending for all of us. (We are all there or just about.)I'm looking forward to the "65th" ? ? ? ARE YOU ?
