Free Internet Access in Austin

Austin Free-Net Public Access Locations Directory

The first public access Internet site for the Austin Public Libraries was established at the George Washington Carver Branch Library on December 12, 1995 and the second site was established at the Dove Springs Branch Library in January of 1996.  These two public access sites have been made available through the cooperative efforts of MAIN, the Austin Free-Net, and donors Advanced Micro Devices, Applied Materials, Inc., Sun Microsystems, and Turning Point Information Services, Inc..

The connection to the Internet is made available through the Metropolitan Austin Interactive Network web site.  Printers attached to the computer terminals allow patrons to print pages from the world wide web.  Netscape is used as the browser.  Information available through the MAIN world wide web site at http://www.main.org include Advocacy Groups in Austin and the surrounding area, Business Assistance groups, Census Data concerning the Austin area, Clubs and Organizations in Austin, Community Services and Volunteer Organizations in the Austin area, information about Home and Garden, Events in the area, Libraries, the City government, Weather, Employment, the Environment, Health Care, Education, Churches, Transportation and much more.
