Carjacking

Carjacking is a violent crime that's on the rise across the country.  Although it can happen to just about anyone, you can take measures to protect yourself:

While driving, keep the doors locked and the windows rolled u to make it difficult for someone to reach in.

Stay alert.  Know what's going on around you at all times -- especially at a stop sign or red light. Avoid lightly traveled streets, especially at night.

Keep your purse/wallet out of view.

When you are walking to your parked car, always have your keys ready to unlock the door quickly.

Keep your driveway well lit.  If you return home at night, a dark driveway or garage area can make you an easy target.

If you are approached by an armed car jacker, give up the vehicle.  Fighting or arguing could put your life in jeopardy.

Never pick up hitchhikers.

If you are being followed, go to a safe, public place and call 911.
