Arts Patrons with Mobility Impairments
Wheelchair seating
Listed below are the venues that have specific wheelchair locations,
their policies and how you should go about ensuring that you get the type of seating and
service that you need. If you feel that a cultural arts venue could be doing a
better job to provide you with a reasonable accommodation let Access Austin Arts know
about it. We can act as a liaison and work with the producer/venue to assist them in
achieving the goal of accessibility to all their patrons. Access Austin Arts is always
looking for more people to join us in educating the local arts organizations about
accessibility issues. Contact us for more information on how you can help.
Each theatre and cultural arts venue has different levels of convenient
accessibility. You should call before going to confirm where the parking is, which
entrance will be easiest, and, and in theatres, where the wheelchair accessible seats are
located. The following are subject to change so do call the venue:
- Bass Concert Hall - Has handicap spaces in
front of the McCullugh Theatre and limited space on the plaza. At the time you purchase
your tickets be sure to inform them that you will need wheelchair seating. There is an
elevator to all levels. There are steps in the orchestra level so if you can transfer you
will need to be sure you are on an aisle you can reach without going down the steps.
- Live Oak Theatre - Under
Renovation. There is only street parking availalable. On Congress Avenue and 8th Street on
the south-east corner there is a handicap space, and on Congress and 7th on the south-east
corner there is a handicap space. There are other spaces scattered up and down Congress
Avenue.
- Paramount Theatre -
Parking is the same as with the Live Oak Theatre. At the time you purchase your tickets be
sure to inform them that you will need wheelchair seating. There is no elevator to the
mezzinine and balcony. If you can transfer you may want to tell them that you would like
an aisle seat in the orchestra. There are no steps in the orchestra level of the theatre.
- Zachary Scott Theatre - Has parking lots and
handicap spaces in front of both the Kreeger and the Arena theatres. Wheelchair seating
locations are on the back row in the Arena Theatre and on the front row in the Kreeger
theatres. There are steps up or down to all other rows in both theatres.
If you need information about venues not listed above, or if you
